Public collections require thoughtful discussions between the client
and art advisor. Issues that need to be addressed include: nature of
activities in building, racial composition, cultural values of users,
stakeholders, visitors and employees. These important upfront
conversations inform the type, subject matter and medium of artwork
that is selected that will be sensitive to and reflects the users. Murphy Rabb Inc. is sensitive to controversial material.
Other issues such as traffic patterns, architecture, scale, signage and
security must be paid special attention. Additionally, choosing works
that can be secured and withstand the public environment is a challenge
Murphy Rabb Inc. has faced many times.
Fact of Note:
Murphy Rabb Inc. created a collection of more than 500 pieces for the
John H. Stroger, Jr., Hospital of Cook County – a 1.5 million square
foot facility.
